I moved to Jondaryan to enjoy my twilight years but coal mining has destroyed my life. My house is about a kilometre from the coal stockpile and train line. Millions of tonnes of uncovered coal wagons pass through the town every year and that’s going to increase.
Coal dust from the stockpile causes me to suffer headaches, burning eyes, nausea and difficulty breathing, leading to panting and blacks-outs. The noise vibrations are unbearable at night causing sleepless nights that affect my concentration during the day. The beep, beep, beep noises from the machinery all day grate on my nerves. I have to have the TV going all day so I don’t hear the noise.
